Links

The links on this page fall under a variety of categories. Some of the sites belong to friends, some of them are great resources for writers, and some of these sites belong to authors who's work I love to read. One or two of the sites on this list fit all three categories!

For your convenience, I've coded these links so they will open a new browser window. When you're done viewing the other site, you can close the window and browse the list further.

Note: If you have a site for writers and you'd like to exchange links with me, please send me a message at: webmaster@irenesmith.com. Include the address of your site and a short description of the contents. I'll check it out and, if I agree, I'll be happy to add you to this list in exchange for a reciprocal link from your site.

The hardest thing about this section is to find something unique to say about each web site. They're all interesting, all worth a visit and all of them are people I consider friends.

Just for Fun

Sites that will amuse or amaze you. Some belong to friends, others I've discovered in my web surfing travels. Enjoy!

Enchanted Elements -- The beautiful and eclectic web site of Wendi Friend.

Jigzone -- Do you like doing jigsaw puzzles? This web site lets you put together puzzles to your heart's content. They have hundreds of puzzles for you to choose from and you can change the number and shape of the pieces from 6 pieces that wouldn't challenge any but the youngest child to 247 triangle shaped pieces that can challenge even the experienced puzzler.

Life Through a Lens -- If you like my photography this web site will just blow you away. Stop by and visit a while. You'll be glad you did.

Books/Publications

The links in this list provide information about specific books or publications I think you might find interesting.

Flash Fiction Flash -- If you write flash fiction as I do, you should consider signing up for this free newsletter. Flash Fiction Flash, edited by Pamelyn Casto, is a great way to keep up with markets, contests, and publishing news for short-short literature 1,500 words or less (including short-short stories, prose poetry, creative nonfiction, haibun, flash memoirs, flash plays). To subscribe, send a completely blank email to FlashFictionFlash-Subscribe@yahoogroups.com.

Writer's Digest -- What writer doesn't subscribe to writer's digest sometime in their writing career?

Romancing the Soul, edited by Dorothy Thompson. The easiest way to describe the book is to quote the editor, herself: "Do soul mates exist? You can find the answer to this perplexing age-old question in the anthology, Romancing the Soul--True Stories of Soul Mates from around the World and Beyond."

Search Engines

Any webmaster who wants to get hits needs to get listed in the search engines. I'd be willing to bet that you've never heard of some of these places, but the more places you can get to link to you, the better your chances of getting into places like Google. So submit away!

Dogpile - One of those places where you can search multiple search engines at the same time. I discovered this site over six years ago. Sad to say, it seems to be getting more and more commercial and I don't see any way to submit my site without paying for it.

Google - Of course, one of the top search engines. I have their search bar installed in web browser and use them all the time.

Lycos - They don't seem to take listings for free any more. The only links I could find all led to places where I could sign up to pay to have my site listed. Anybody know if there's still a way to get listed for free?

Scrub the Web

SearchHippo - I tried searching for "submission guidelines" and was rewarded with quite a few interesting listings.

Walhello - I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly my site appeared on this list. On the other hand, maybe they had it already for some reason?

Yahoo! - This may not be the hot spot it once was, but they provide information to many other search engines. From what I hear, it's not easy to get your site listed on Yahoo! but well worth it if you do.
